THE 1ST INDONESIAN LANGUAGE CONGRESS (KBI I)
The first Indonesian Language Congress took place in Solo from June 25--27, 1938. During that congress, Ki Hajar Dewantara stated that " what is it called "the Indonesian language" is the Malay language that is originally derived from 'Melayu Riau', but that has been added, changed or modified to meet the needs of the era and the new world, so that the language is now widely used by people in Indonesia ..." Therefore, this first congress decided that new grammar needed to be compiled since the existing grammar books were no longer sufficient, not in accordance with the development of the Indonesian language. |
